Thanks, folks, for your well-wishes! I’m sure it will all go okay tomorrow, but your nice words made me feel a little more confident.
I got a little over-excited about this blanket and ended up spending more time than I thought I would finishing it up yesterday morning. You don’t need more explanation, so here are some final photos. The backside before clipping ends, a closeup on the edging, and then a couple of lame shots of the blanket on the whole. Nitty-gritty details are at the end.
Pattern: standard granny squares, improvised color and size layout; shell edging
Yarn: 2275g of various worsted weight (KPWotA, Cascade 220, Valley Yarns Northampton)
Hook: 4.5mm
Final Size: 65″ square; each small square is 2″
Started: April 15, 2011
Finished: May 23, 2011

WOW! It is so beautiful. Hey, and good luck with the surgery.
Oh it’s so pretty! Love it! :)
Good golly, it is gorgeous. What an amazing project! I can just imagine how cozy it is!
oh my!!! it’s gorgeous! i just adore all that COLOR.
Every time I see a granny square blanket it makes me want to learn to crochet because I heart them so much! And yours is no exception – great colors and I love that you mixed different sized squares.
So beautiful!! All the best for tomorrow!
xoxo
That looks like a great, cozy spot for recovery reading or movie watching.
Wow! It’s amazing!
I love it – so bright and cheerful, and I think the edging just sets it off perfectly. Can’t believe you managed to do that in six weeks!
Good luck with your surgery, thinking of you and I hope you aren’t too stressed out by it all.
So gorgeous! It really seemed to work up fast too. Sending good thoughts your way!
Turned out very nice… no surprise there though. Maybe one day I will learn to do something like this. Maybe a class is in order for me sometime. But I should wait until I have more storage space for yarn, hard enough to find space for fabric. Are your students aware of what you do? Random question but I just wondered.
Hoping the surgery goes well, have a great Tuesday

You are amazing. (Will keep you in my thoughts tomorrow)

I didn’t realize how BIG it is until I saw it on your futon!

This blanket makes me weak in the knees. Beautiful craftsmanship as always, C!
I can’t decide if it’s inspiring or frightening. Hope it comforts you as you heal.

That is seriously gorgeous! SO much lovely color!
Oh my God C! Breathtaking! I knew it would be awesome, but the size – wow! Perfect edging too. I’m glad you have it to snuggle with during recovery. Good luck tomorrow:)
Wow! Just… Wow!
It’s bigger than I realized… makes me think “Square Acreage”.
It’s SO HUGE! All those teeny tiny squares – very impressive and completely correct about the f-ing awesome part.
I’m in awe of your finishing skills- my afghans tend to sit in block format forever…
WOW! Everything everyone else said x10! It is, as you said, a totally f*cking awesome blanket! Love it!
Wow, it’s amazing.
Oh how lovely! I’m so envious – you just whipped that out. I’ve been working on a granny square baby blanket since January and it is only 2ftX 2ft!
I am one of the people who understands EXACTLY how you managed to crank this out so fast.
(Possession.)
It looks very poofy and twinkly. Beautiful!
Heal up fast, your fans need you to be making stuff.
Kay

Spectacular blanket! Sending positive thoughts for your surgery and the bestest of wishes!
that´s a lovely work

Yeah, that’s pretty awesome. I like how the random cross shapes in some of the centers add sparkle to the blanket. A most excellent way to use up yarn ends. :-)
Outrageously pretty. I’m in love.
Well Done! It is fantastic.
holy cow.
Goodness me. This is stunning. I love the different sizes. It is so huge and fabulous.

it turned out lovely! I love it on the couch, a perfect match. Goes nicely w/ your art on the wall too =)
WOW! Beautiful finished blanket.
I took a break from the internets, and then bam! Not a square to spare is finished! You definitely chose the right name! I’m glad you are recovering from your surgery, and getting back on your feet.
The afghan is completely amazing! I want to make it but I wondered if you had written out directions for it. I am a beginning crocheter and need to follow a pattern. Is it listed somewhere else? Thank you for sharing such an awesome blanket. I really want to make one for each of my girls (3).
