Thanks, folks, for helping me with the quantitative reality check yesterday. I’ll respond to most of the comments by email soon.
In this busy time at RealJob, there’s not much making going on over here. Started this little ditty (designed by weelittlestitches) on Tuesday night for a swap.
I’ve only really watched one episode of this show, “Blink.” Tried to go back and start a season, but just didn’t get into it. So many folks I know love it, so I’ll try again sometime.
Have a great weekend!
.
ETA: B/c of comment…This is Dr. Who themed stitchery. I think those are the last 3 Doctors and the blue thing is…well…I’m not the one who should explain it.

Hi there, Tell more about how you organize a design/art swap?? Sounds as a fun a reasonable thing to do in rainy, izy, coooooooold winter
the thing about doctor who is… the first episode (of the new series, with christopher eccleston) is ridiculously bad. if you can push through the first two episodes, you’ll likely be hooked.
I recommend starting with “Silence in the Library” & “Forest of the Dead” (it’s a 2-parter). They’re the first ones I saw and I’ve been enjoying the show.
delightful stitching! not being huge on tv..I don’t even know what “blink” is !!
oh, it’s an episode of Dr. Who.
As a brit I grew up wuth the Dr. Every sat night the whole family sat down together to watch. I was thrilled when the franchise was revised and I was able to watch with my own family. Serious addict here but perhaps for me much of the appeal is nostalgia.
You must check this out: http://craftyiscool.blogspot.com/2012/12/doctor-who-collection-completion.html
Tennant is my favorite Dr. I have to admit that although I knew about the original series (too many Brits in my life not to know), I had never watched the show. The kids and I started with the “reboot” and have been hooked by the campiness and adventure. (My daughter was a Dalek for Halloween.) I’m ready to see more crafty tributes to the companions now — amigurumi Rose, Martha, Donna, River, Amy and Rory please.
This is a better link since it shows all the doctors and the Tardis:

I still have not fully gotten into the show, but I have started it, at Amanda’s insistence. Your x-stitch is super fun! I bet your partner will love it. Thanks again for helping me join in. It’s fun plotting!
Love Dr. Who… If you want to give it a chance, the thing to do would be to get hold of one of the “christmas special” episodes, as those are geared a lot more towards people who may not know the past histories of each character! (And Christopher Eccleston is an awesome Dr… The Empty Child and its follow up http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Empty_Child were one of the best storylines and one of the scariest imaging…)
Sorry! Geeking out… not to mention a decades old crush on Mr Eccleston… lol
The Empty Child is such a great episode! Christopher Eccleston was my first Doctor, and I think he’s criminally underrated. Everyone swoons on about David Tenant (and don’t get me wrong, he’s a cutie and I eventually came ’round to him) but I have a big ol’ soft spot for Christopher Eccleston’s Doctor.
David Tennant, damn it!
I love the show and this is why. It is an adventure show. I’ll watch Grey’s Anatomy to get all rubberneck about who is sleeping with whom and how everyone is wrecking their lives. And I love Downtown, just plain pretty to watch, and all about the human experience and especially about how we all get along and are still human during huge societal upheaval. But I love Doctor Who because it’s just about the thrill of what will happen and how it will get fixed and go, go, go, run, run, run. Especially the new show will also throw in the other bits for good measure, and it makes it a better show than the old one (also the part where the BBC spends money on producing it…), but on the whole, I love it because it’s good, clean, fun. Actually good, actually clean, and very fun.
Now I’m totally going to go buy that pattern.
Love that design! And yes, another Dr. Who fan here! I started watching in the late 70′s with Tom Baker (of the infamously long scarf), and have thoroughly enjoyed the reboot.
But I admit it’s not for everyone… no show is! If you decide to try again I agree with the suggestions mentioned of The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, and Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead. They both contain some suspense, some humour, some oddness. That’s the mix I like about this series so much… humor, suspense and odd!
I LOVE Doctor Who. Ridiculously. I like that it’s not all high school aged actors and the relationships are complicated and people still get excited by new things and don’t try to act cool and are just themselves. Also, the blue thing is the Doctor’s space ship, the TARDIS, which has a chameleon chip that is stuck on the police box mode. It’s supposed to be able to change form so it blends into wherever it goes in time and space, but it’s sort of a junker space ship.
I’ve watched a few episodes, but I’ve yet to be hooked. So many people I like are fans, so I keep trying!
woohoo! the blue police booth is the TARDIS. not even gonna try to explain it. love the stitchery. glad you watched Blink. love that episode. Second the suggestion for trying Silence in the Library next. and the sequel. or just skip the first season and start with the David Tennants…
yep, it’s the last three doctors. I wonder which series you tried to watch? I only started watching with the arrival of Matt Smith as doctor (not sure which series, sorry, but it was two series ago) and I was hooked. I’ve since watched some older ones with David Tennant but he doesn’t do it for me – plenty of others like him though so if you watched a MS (sorry, don’t know the names of the episodes though I think that might have been about the Stone Angels with MS) try a DT instead.
Loving all the Dr Who activity! (from someone who lives down the road from Lone Wolf Bay!)
lovely! i haven’t gotten into the series either but i feel like i should give it another try since so many people seem to really love it.
You landed a sale for weelittlestitches. It has been on my mind since you posted this, so here I am.
