Well, I missed QuiltCon 2015, despite a full year of anticipation. I already wallowed in self-pity about it, but the decision not to go (made at 4am just before my flight) was the right one.
A week ago, I started have intermittent intense stabbing pain. Between the episodes, all was fairly normal other than losing 5 pounds in two days, difficulty walking, and the growing fear of the next strike. After getting some help, some basic home care resulted in a slow taper of the problems; most recover from this within two weeks, so we’ll see. This is as much as I’ll discuss. Simple issues get complicated quickly in my healthcare and it’s boring to talk about. Overall, I’m lucky now as an adult to rarely get sick so I tend to get through the temporary misery by keeping that in mind.
Having slept through the past five days, it’s a joy to rejoin the world. Yesterday I managed to eat solid foods and to sew a quilt block! It’s a precision-pieced brown commemoration of lost time. Brown? Yeah, it kinda makes sense here, but actually was just the fabric nearby. And non-improv just because I’ve been feeling the urge to have tight control on things, I guess. Still small, though; that’s a 5″ (unfinished) block.
Dispatches from QuiltCon seem quite colorful and positive and energetic! I’m still gutted to have missed seeing my friends, making new ones, and being around quilts. Oh, and ‘In Wedowee’ won a prize in the small quilt category. Yay!
Off to take a nap.
Whewww! It’s good to hear you are better. 😊hugzzz!
Those kinds of decisions are painful, but I’ve found it’s just part of wearing big girl panties some of the time, to decide that it’s really best NOT to do something I would’ve ordinarily enjoyed when the health things kick in. Tis the winter for a ZZZZZZZZZZZ project anyway!
Glad you are feeling better. Nice of everyone who did get to go to Quiltcon to show us all the fun and amazing quilts!
Glad you are healing. Congratulations on the win! Your work inspires me, daily! Thank you.
I do hope you are doing okay now-your brown colors make me think of chocolate-maybe some real chocolate will make you feel better! Works for me! Rest as much as possible with a little notepad nearby so you can make notes on your next adventure! I look forward to your site, & I love how you can sew such tiny blocks!
Oh man…that sucks. I’m so sorry. Congratulations on the win though!
Hope you are on the mend speedily. Pun allowed?

We missed you!! I kept looking for you. Spotted one of your quilts and took pictures. Hope you’re doing better soon!
I’m sorry that you missed Quitlcon, but I’m glad you are improving. What a hard decision to have to make.
I love your quilt square. It really packs a punch for it’s size. And I love the colors. I really love shades of brown. So much so, I made an entire quilt out of them.
And Congratulations on the win!
oh misery. so sorry you had health problems and even sorrier they ruined fun for you. congrats on the award on an amazing quilt.
Sorry to have missed you, too, but so thankful you are feeling well enough to be back to sewing. I personally was a bit overwhelmed by QuiltCon this year – I keep thinking of it as a study in being alone in a large crowd.
Many congratulations on your win but really more importantly, hope you get through this health thing- feel better! I don’t post much, but I always read: your words often are more poignant than your quilts!
I’m glad things have calmed a bit for you. The block is great, precision for a time that was out of control. And I’m sad with you that you missed seeing people and things you love.
I’m so sorry you were sick and missed QuiltCon. Glad you are on the mend. Take care!
I’m bummed on your behalf that you missed it, C. When I saw your brown in my IG stream I wondered what you were doing not at QuiltCon. Me, I stayed home to NOT have the baby yet. Haha. Not really, I couldn’t have gone anyways, but it would have been easier to swallow if I was at least pleasantly distracted. Sounds like you know what I mean.
you were gone for a while
I was growing more concerned
I am however glad to hear you are on the upswing side of this
I am sorry you missed the Quilt Con
Congratulations on winning. You work is wonderful and I do hope your recovery continues smoothly.
I’m so glad you are feeling a bit better, but I am very VERY sad that I didn’t get to squeeze you. I’ve got a whole jar of hugs here for you.
Congrats on the win, glad you’re feeling better.
I have been thinking of you and hope you feel better day by day. Last May I cancelled a much anticipated weekend because I just couldn’t go. Hard decision but the right one. Congratulations on the prize:)
I am glad you are on the mend and we sure missed you at QuiltCon. I did visit with each of your beautiful quilts and was so happy to see the ribbon on one, very well deserved.
Very sorry you are going through a health crisis and also glad you seem to be on the mend. Really tough decision to miss Quiltcon. Congrats on the win. Very much deserved.
Congrats on the win, Chawne. So lovely to see your quilts. I’m so sorry you weren’t able to come but happy to hear you are somewhat better. Really missed catching up with you.
Quiltcon was missing a special person there: YOU! Glad you are feeling better. Inspiring creating as usual.
